Between the Sips began over a birthday tea. My daughter Shawna and I go out for high tea every year, and one year the conversation turned to the two things we love most: romance novels and a proper pot of tea. By the end of the afternoon we had menus, themes and a name.
I've read romance since I was fifteen, starting with the Harlequin westerns my mother handed down and following the genre into fantasy, where the love stories come with dragons. My great-grandmother read Harlequins too. I wanted a place where readers of every age could talk about the books they love without apologizing for them, and where someone who doesn't drink coffee could still sit down with a book and a warm cup.
After thirteen years managing health care clinics and nearly fourteen years in Colorado, I took a small-business course, rewrote the plan until it held together, and opened the doors in August 2026. The day the sign went up, I sat in the parking lot and cried. Now the shelves are filling, the kettle is always on, and I'm getting to know my regulars by name. Come in and let me learn yours.
